| In
1993 I opened Portrait Dolls studio. For 4 years I made
porcelain dolls for many people, most of whom were brides.
Images of happy and charming women during the happiest time
of their lives were captured in the bridal dolls.
Portrait dolls look like the brides
by feature of their faces, colors, and whole attire. In
their appreciation letters the brides and the grooms recalled
that portrait dolls made their wedding unique and unforgettable.
I learned how to make the porcelain dolls over many years. The most important
part of this learning process for me was to study the illustrations of the wonderful
dolls created by famous French doll artists of the 19th century. In order
to copy the face of one of these dolls I needed to study and copy a lot of details,
for example: the shape, length and direction of the eyebrows and eyelashes, the
shape and curves of the lips, and the shape of the eyes. The idea for my
portrait dolls came from the experience of those studies.
In addition to modern day brides I have also made dolls of brides from
the 1940’s, 50’s, etc. I also made dolls using portraits of children.
I have received many letters of appreciation from my clients
who told me that their portrait dolls made their weddings
unique and unforgettable. Click
